Who are we?

Located in the Great Lakes region of Africa, Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world, ranked 184 out of 188 countries in the Human Development Index. Much of its history has been turbulent, and Burundi today continues to face many political and economic challenges. Mothers’ Union has been active in Burundi for 70 years and has more than 18,000 members who actively promote stable family life and support those in need. Mothers’ Union Burundi takes a holistic approach that focuses on faith, family and community. Challenges to family life include high unemployment, crime, poverty and food insecurity.

Agriculture

This Program focus on agricultural skills training to promote improved seeds, value chain and bulking of participants'agricultural commodities to improve production and be more resilient to climate change. 

Literacy and Numeracy Education

“Beginning in 2000 Literacy and Financial Education Programme (LFEP) was designed to give a holistic approach to empowering some of the most marginalised communities in the world whilst meeting the Millennium Development Goals.

The objective of this program is to promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life  and the protection of children

Financial Education Program

 This program aims to allow accredited literate learners to use their new reading and writing skills to generate income and build businesses.
